Why go
Start at the Bund in the early morning or late afternoon, then cross to Lujiazui by tunnel or ferry for the view back. The French Concession is best explored on foot or by shared bike — it's flat, leafy and full of hidden lanes.
Shanghai's food scene is the best in China for variety. Book a xiaolongbao specialist, then improvise: soup dumplings, pan-fried buns, and night-market skewers all reward the walk-ins.

Where to go
One day for the Bund + Pudong skyline, one for the French Concession + Tianzifang, one flexible day for Yu Garden, the Shanghai Museum and the West Bund art corridor. Add Zhujiajiao water town as a half-day escape if you have time.
Getting around
The metro is superb and announcements are bilingual. For the Bund-to-Pudong crossing, the ferry from Dongchang Road costs about ¥2 and gives a great skyline view. Avoid taxis across the river in rush hour — the tunnels jam.
